Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood

Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood is a simulated refugee journey set up for a few weeks each year in the grounds of Auburn Centre for Community. Tour guides, who are former refugees or currently seeking asylum, guide participants through the interactive exhibition. Throughout the tour you’ll discover the stories and experiences of many local residents as you experience what it’s like to flee your country and try to find safety.

The Auburn Small Community Organisation Network is a key partner in this project.

Connect to Work - Free Employment Advice

The Connect to Work project provides free employment assistance to recently arrived migrants, refugees and asylum seekers living in the Cumberland Local Government Area. A skilled employment advisor provides free help with resumes, job search, selection criteria and interviews practice from Auburn Library and Merrylands Library.

The project is funded by DOOLEYS Lidcombe Catholic Club and delivered with support from Cumberland Council.

Flavours of Auburn Cultural Tourism Project

Auburn is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse areas in Australia and is often a place to call home for many newly arrived migrants and refugees settling in Australia.

Flavours of Auburn is a mix of events, food tours, cooking classes and a cookbook that celebrate the culinary diversity of the Auburn area. If food brings people together than Flavours of Auburn brings the community together, providing new opportunities for intercultural dialogue and understanding, building stronger relationships and sharing our many cultures as one community.

The project is a partnership between ASCON, House of Welcome and Cumberland Council.
